Our aim is to authentically portray the late Victorian-era civilian population and volunteer defence force of the state of Queensland, and in doing so, provide a rewarding experience through a spirit of fellowship, a sense of pride, and a passion for history.
Through our Project we aspire to conduct quality living history displays. We attempt to portray the essence of our era by showing many of the cultural and social themes which go hand in hand with our particular interpretation of the late Victorian-era civilian population as well as the local colonial military volunteers. We are committed to the most historically accurate portrayal that we can achieve, and the integrity of this depiction in a public forum is paramount.
Our impressions are based upon detailed research and careful analysis of reliable sources of information about this period of Queensland History. We rely on documented research and recognise the need to evaluate all possible sources of information. We manufacture or obtain the most historically accurate clothing, equipment, and other items relevant to the period we depict. We ensure the use of proper materials and construction techniques in all reproduction items. Clothing and accoutrements are obtained through a centralised supply and manufacturing area, emulating the manner in which these items were supplied.
We aim to create believable 19th century impressions that not only demonstrates the life of the civilian population and the duties expected of volunteer soldiers, but also provide insight into the culture and life of those individuals.
The two themes to be covered under Queensland Socttish Living History Project are Military and Civilian.
The time period authorised for depiction in both themes is limited to the year 1888.
The place in which the depiction is to be set is limited to the colony of Queensland.
